Aigra Nova is a beautifully restored xisto village with narrow streets, cobbled in quartzite (the local grey stone). Despite having the name ‘Nova’ – meaning ‘new’ – the village probably goes back at least 1400 years and it is thought that the settlement is Moorish in origin. There are gold mines below the village, probably responsible for bringing the original settlers. |
