Cimo de Alvém is located along the N2 Góis to Pampilhosa da Serra road. A few houses of the village are sited on either side of the road, but the main part of the village and the chapel of São Domingos lie a little further up the hill. Most of the lanes are too narrow for cars, possibly because the village dates back to the time of the Moors, and the little paths are lined with pots full of flowering plants. It is probably the most floral village in the region – flower gardens seem to be more abundant around the houses than in other villages, maybe because the lanes are pedestrian-only, or perhaps the inhabitants of Cimo de Alvém are more green-fingered! Coupled with the view across the whole Mondego valley, to Serra do Caramulinho, it makes Cimo de Alvém a most attractive village. When driving through the village, please ensure that you observe the speed limit, for the safety and well-being of all the inhabitants. |
