Ribeira Cimeira is a beautiful village, rising gently from the little river valley on the north side of the Pena de Góis. It is a pleasant mix of renovated xisto cottages and whit-painted houses. The streets through the village are narrow, and were designed for pedestrians, not modern motor vehicles.
The church of Santa Rita at the front of the village stands imposingly against the background of the village and the hill behind. The terraces in front of the village are cultivated by the villagers – 40 inhabitants in total. The river at the bottom of the terraces is used for irrigation, and is crossed by a beautiful stone bridge. At the bottom of the village is the Casa de Convivio (community centre) with a café and local handicrafts on sale.

There is a traditional market held annually at Ribeira Cimeira with music and roast pig.

Ribeira Fundeira lies to the west of  Ribeira Cimeira. It is a small hamlet of traditional houses and several xisto ruins. Below the hamlet are huge glacial boulders outlining old field boundaries, and amongst the cottages are little walled gardens with grapevines and fruit trees.
