Vale Travasso

Vale Travasso is a little hamlet approximately 1km from the centre of Góis, that is now included in Regateira (if you are to believe the road signs!) Historically, the settlement was a farming community, working the rich fertile fields of the valley. Vale Travasso takes its name from the little valley that rises towards Vale Moreiro. There is an old road that climbs the valley, that was once the main route to Casal Loureiro. In the 19th century there was an ambitious project to build a train line from Coimbra to Arganil. Partly through funding and technical difficulties, the line was stopped at Serpins, although two tunnels and the embankments were partially completed in the Góis section. The railway would have passed close to Vale Travasso.
The land between Vale Travasso and Regateira is called Quinta da Ribeira.
