Unlike the villages higher on the hills of the Góis region, that historically depended on sheep and goats for their survival, Juncal, like its neighbouring villages down in the valley, has been more involved with cereal and crop cultivation. Hence there are fewer grazing animals around, although donkeys and oxen, traditionally used for pulling carts and ploughs, can still occasionally be seen in the area.
