Linteiro

Linteiro sits almost on the division between the freguesias of Vila Nova do Ceira and Góis. Round glacial boulders are used to construct the field walls and old buildings around the village. The little chapel on the hill, almost hidden by large pine trees before they were recently cleared, now looks over the village again. The land around the village that is now fertile with vines, olive and fruit trees, was once covered in round glacial stones.
Evidence of the toil of clearing the land, now lies in large piles of stones stretching up the hillside. Until recently, the village was home to the carpenter who built many of the wooden mill wheels, used to provide power for both maize mills and olive presses. Below the village there is a weir that diverts water to both irrigation systems and mills further down the valley. Today there is a horse-riding stables at Linteiro offering opportunities for local people to ride, and horse-riding holidays for visitors.
