Description of property:
An impressive colonial-style quinta with a large area of land for keeping horses, just 5km from Oliveira do Hospital.
The 3-storey house is built of granite and was constructed in approximately 1840. Many of the original features of the house have been maintained, and the front of the house is decorated with hand painted tiles. The house has wood ceilings and floors throughout, and most of the rooms have interior wooden shutters. All the rooms have high ceilings.
On the ground floor there is an entry hall with painted marble-effect decoration. To one side of the hall there is a living room with a stone alcove, and walls painted with a decorative pattern. There is also a bedroom, and a large well-lit room currently used as an office.
On the other side of the hall there is access to the kitchen, and a door leading to an annex of granite beyond the main house with a second kitchen/dining room that has a door to the outside area, a tiled floor and a wood stove. Also off the hall there is a small store room, and another living room with a painted ceiling and a French door to a veranda at the front of house. A wood staircase leads up to the 1st floor.
The 1st floor comprises: 2 bedrooms with French doors to the rear of the property; 3 further bedrooms with decoratively painted walls, one with windows front and side looking to the Serra de Estrela; a bathroom with bath; and a small bedroom to the rear used for storage. A wood staircase leads up to the 2nd floor.
The 2nd floor comprises an attic with 4 rooms, although the divisions are not yet finished. The attic has 2 windows and 2 French doors, and could be made into additional habitation.
Outside there is a patio area to the rear of the house, and a walled sitting area. The garden has a door to the public road and a gate to the land.
There is a granite storehouse with a bread oven and an olive and grape press; and a large granite water tank on the property, large enough to be used as a swimming pool, that can be filled twice a week from the community well.
The land is fenced, and has 3 accesses. A stable has been constructed in wood to accommodate 2 horses. There is a ruin of a storehouse on the land, a borehole providing drinking water, and 2 wells.
Olive, mandarin, plum, persimmon, pear, loquat, cherry, apple, peach, and hazelnut trees are growing on the land.
The quinta is situated just 500m from the village of Travanca de Lagos, that has a minimarket, 3 cafes, shops, and a playground. There are many tracks in the area that are suitable for horse-riding.
