Description of property:
A tastefully restored rustic cottage constructed from local river stone, with a private sunny courtyard, located in the village of Várzea Pequena on the river Ceira.
Stone steps lead up to the front door on the first storey, that opens on to a landing with a wood floor. 3 rooms lead off the landing: a large double bedroom, an office space (that could also be used as a small child’s bedroom), and a tiled bathroom with walk-in shower. The rooms are light and bright with new wooden casement windows. A wooden staircase leads down to a living-room/kitchen, with tiled floor, that has a door opening on to a private cobbled courtyard. The courtyard has a gate at one end opening on to a quiet lane. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge, electric oven, electric hob, and fitted with cupboards and a granite worktop. In the living area is a good-sized wood-burning stove providing heat to the whole house. The cottage has been insulated and has double-glazed windows throughout. The property can be connected to the TV satellite, telephone and ADSL from the owners’ property next door.
Corner Cottage is located in the heart of the picturesque village of Várzea Pequena, which is still well-populated. There is a local café in the village, and just a couple of minutes’ walk away there is a river-beach with all amenities, including a café-bar during the summer months. In nearby Várzea Grande there is also a mini-market, butchers, pharmacy, post-office, ATM and several cafés, as well as a primary school and health centre. The town of Góis is just 5 minutes’ drive away in one direction, and Vila Nova de Poiares is 15 minutes in the other. The Metro line to Coimbra which terminates at Serpins (due for completion in 2012 and currently served by buses) is 15 minutes to the south, and connects with the national rail and bus service on a very regular timetable.
